뉴욕시 퀸즈 베이사이드 투표소 현장은 비교적 한산한 분위깁니다. 앞서 여론조사 기관 갤럽이 지난달 14일부터 27일까지 미국 전역 18세 이상 성인 1700명을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 사전투표를 했거나 할 계획이라고 답한 응답자는 54%였는데요. NBC방송이 주별로 집계한 결과에 따르면, 뉴욕주에서 조기투표 또는 우편투표를 통해 선거에 참여한 유권자는 총 280만 1307명으로 집계됩니다. 이 가운데 54%가 민주당 등록 유권자이며, 24%가 공화당 등록 유권자로 나타났습니다.
초접전 양상을 보이는 이번 대선에서, 뉴욕시 유권자들의 의견을 들어봤습니다.
베이사이드에 거주중인 77세 백인남성 Martin Murhphy는 이번 대선의 주요 쟁점을 묻자, 경제라고 답했습니다. 이어, 더 많은 사람들이 직장에서 일할 수 있는 구조가 되길 바란다며 현 정부는 경제와 관련해서 부적절한 정책을 피고 있다고 말했습니다.

선거의 전망과 관련해서는 개인적으로 트럼프가 승리할 것 같다는 입장을 보였습니다.
33세 남성 실베스터 프로스트는 이번선거의 쟁점은 경제와 이민자 사이에 있다고 봤는데요.

실베스터 프로스트는 낙태권과 관련해서는 주법에 따라야 한다는 입장입니다. 그는 미국자체는 주의 연합이라며 뉴욕사람들은 스스로 일을 해결하고 그들만의 사고방식을 가져야한다고 말했습니다.
- State. State. Because if you make a federal, then That's a medical practice. By the Constitution, medical practices are states in charge of the states for the people, the people of that state. The U.S. itself is not really a large conglomerate. It's a state, like a union of states. So people of New York take care of their own. They have their own thought process and everything.
경제와 이민자 정책과 관련해서는 "미국이 무엇보다도 미국 국민들을 돕는 방향으로 나아가길 바란다"며 "공화든 민주든 모든 사람이 미국 시민을 위한 국가가 되어야한다"고 말했습니다. 이어 "우크라이나 등 다른나라에 돈을 보내는 것보다 스스로 먼저 안정적인 국가가 되어야한다"고 강조했습니다.
- So the reason why I'm asking is I'd rather the US go in a direction that helps Americans more so than anything. Because no matter who you are, left, right, center, Whatever. Everyone should go in the right direction to help the American citizens. We shouldn't be sending money to Ukraine or whatever other countries out there.
프로스트는 이번 선거 결과는 한치앞을 내다볼 수 없다면서 오히려 부통령 후보들이 더 대선 후보의 자질을 보인다는 입장을 밝혔습니다.
- In all honestly i have no clue because it's a 50 50 split right now... I rather, because they're both very presidential, they're both very, they're good candidates that I would hope would be presidential candidates.
50대 한인여성은 이번 선거에서 경제를 중점으로 봐야한다고 말했습니다. 장바구니 물가를 안정화 시키는 것이 중요하다고 말했습니다.

- I think the most important issue in this election is the What's happening in the Middle East and what I see every day on my news feed, like basically a genocide, a genocide, the killing of innocent civilians, children and women and older people. You know, for me, a lot of people are important, but when you see a genocide happen, that's the most important issue for me, you know.

- Yes, I think Americans were very decent people. The majority of Americans are very decent people and we don't want to use our money, our tax money, to help other countries, you know, kill each other, you know, and to help people kill each other and especially to kill innocent civilians and children, you know...And instead of that, we're allowing a two-party system to use our money for genocide. For me, that's the most important issue in this election.
사람들이 양당제를 거부하길 바란다는 스텔라는 대선 승패와 관련한 질문에서 아마도 트럼프가 승리할 것 같다는 입장을 밝혔습니다. 그녀는 "카멀라와 해리스가 그동안 학살을 방조해왔기에 양심상 카멀라에 투표할 수 없을 것"이라며 "트럼프가 당선되도 기본적으로 같은 일이 계속될 것으로 본다"고 덧붙였습니다.
- In my point of view, I don't want any of the two of them to win. I voted like a third party. But I believe that maybe Trump will win because a lot of people cannot swallow... the genocide. You know, they cannot vote in good conscience for Kamala because Kamala and Biden have been facilitating the genocide. And since there's only two choices, people usually go from one party to another, you know. So I believe now they're going to elect Trump to continue the same thing, basically.
